Rondo A-Dur KV Anh.88

This fragment in A for basset horn and string quartet, often given the title Rondo, shares the opening theme with Ferrando's Aria No. 24 from Cosi fan tutte and may originally have been intended as the final movement of K.581.

The relaxed character of the piece easily falls into the genre of stand-alone rondos. The quiet ending of many of these works was taken as a stimulus for this work, contrasting with the ending of the Clarinet Quintet which might otherwise have served as a model. This makes the rondo a suitable addition to a clarinet quintet concert.
