Santa Fe Project

Commissioned by the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival and the La Jolla Summer Festival in the USA, this work was premiered by Anssi Karttunen and Magnus Lindberg in Santa Fe in July 2006. Santa Fe Project is a concise work in three sections played without a break. Kimmo Korhanen comments that the melodic vein that emerged in Lindberg's similarly scored Dos Coyotes (1993/2002) is present here too, but in a fuller and perhaps even more Romantic form.

"The late Romantic connection is apparent not only in the expansive musical gestures but also the emotional content of the music. The work grows from the calm and exploratory mood of its opening to the effectively rhythmic finale-like final section, although at the very end the work subsides into a lovely, quiet conclusion."
