Songs from the Lowlands

Songs from the Lowlands is a collection of 16th and 17th century songs from my home country, the Netherlands, formerly known as ‘the Low Countries’. It alternates between patriotic songs by Adriaen Valerius from the time when our country was occupied by the Spanish, cheeky love songs and a drinking song, Peeckel-Haringh. Songs from the Lowlands was written for the farewell concert of my good friend Jim Yarnell, who was band director at the American School of The Hague for four decades. Jim conducted the premiere at his last concert on 8 April 2022 and has been enjoying his well-deserved retirement ever since. Songs from the Lowlands can be performed as an instrumental or choral work (SATB).
