This work was commissioned by the Cultural Corporation of the Commune of the Matta Cultural Center Space in Santiago, Chile in July 2019, for which the composer was asked for some extra-musical ‘inspiration’ from the mural The First Goal of the Chilean People by Roberto Matta (1911-2002).

In 1971 Matta made this large mural that remained hidden since the Pinochet coup in 1973, being rediscovered and restored more than 30 years later. The motivation to do this work was assured from the beginning, Matta is one of Leo Brouwer's favorite visual artists.
