Wedding Overture

In this overture, the composer Alfred Bösendorfer was inspired by the spirit of Czech music, such as the music of Smetana or Dvorák. The dance episodes of the piece do not deny their Bohemian character and therefore quickly recall scenes from the opera "The Bartered Bride".

At the beginning of the work there is a march, followed by a dance by the villagers - both in honour of the young bride and groom, of course. After the festive lunch, the wedding couple retreats to the banks of the Vltava River - a romance is heard and from afar the bridal bell calls. In the evening, dancing continues in the festively decorated village hall until the early morning. The "Wedding Overture" ends with the bridal march, which was already heard at the beginning of the piece - this time with the sound of bells and the cheering of friends and acquaintances.
