Thema dieses spezifischen Bild-Textbandes (in englischer Sprache) ist das Verhältnis von Oper und Aufklärung im josephinischen Wien der 80er Jahre des 18. Jahrhunderts. In dieser Zeit war Lorenzo Da Ponte Dichter der kaiserlichen Theater und verfasste zahlreiche Libretti für die Opernbühne, darunter die drei großen Opern für Mozart: Le nozze di Figaro, Don Giovanni und Così fan tutte - die im Zentrum des Buches stehen. Die Konzeption basiert auf drei Ausstellungen, die das Da Ponte Institut im Mahlersaal der Wiener Staatsoper veranstaltet hat. In einer ungewohnten Konstellation von Bildern, Zitaten und erläuternden Texten versucht der Band eine neue Sichtweise auf dieses aufregende Jahrzehnt zu lenken.
