A Choral Fantasia was written for the Three Choirs Festival in 1931. It sets verses from Robert Bridges’ poem Ode to Music, which was originally written as a homage to Henry Purcell in 1895. Itisscored for Soprano Solo, SATB Chorus, Organ, Strings, Brass and Percussion. The vocal score is published here, and orchestral parts are available on hire from the publisher. Gustav Holst (1874-1934) was an English composer and teacher. Having studied under Stanford and Parry, he became a close friend of Vaughan Williams they would often critique each other’s work andinfluenced composers such as Tippet and Britten. He is best remembered for his Planets suite.
