St. Mark Passion BWV 247 1731/1964/2001

This is a revised edition from 1964 which was edited by Diethard Hellman. It is a reconstruction of the St. Mark Passion of 731 based on parody models, with a new foreword by Andreas Glöckner on the current state of research with regard to this work. The edition now includes all 16 chorales which have survived and these are included as facsimiles in a libretto attached to the edition. This new edition serves both musical performance and also treats the subject of the history of the transmission of the Passion.

Note for performance: The present version contains no setting of the Gospel narrative since this was not handed down by Bach. Therefore the Gospel text should be spoken.
