Theattractive book is suitable for the violinist who is already familiarwith the first position, however in some pieces it makes a start withthe third position as well - alternative small notes have been addedin these cases, to make the melody also entirely playable in the firstposition. The pieces in which the third position does not occur holdanother challenge, for example in the rhythm or the key.
